  5. Successful painter found gift after vision loss - Oct 07,2008

After losing her vision in 1999 due to diabetes complications, Suzanne Gardner finds life more fulfilling through acrylics and oils on large canvases. At present her paintings hang prominently in private collections across Canada, thr United States, Britain, and Mexico. With every brushstroke she tries to capture the joyful expressions of life and attempts to create magnificent masses of luscious and sumptuous colour. A vivid colour palette, coupled with her desire to create movement makes her flowers an exuberant explosion of emotion which allows Suzanne's paintings to dance and come to life. 9. L'immatérialité dépoussiérée (VI)

    Listen
Cela me trouble.

Planned trip highlights include: a) seeing the Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Zach Galifinakis, Bob Odenkirk, et. al. show, at the Troubador tomorrow night, b) Amoeba Records, c) drinks at the Dresden, d) and meeting the waiter from Chuck Klosterman's hypothetical movie script, which I anticipate, will not be hard at all.br /br /Two L.A. songs, including my favorite Kozelek track.br /br /a href="http://www.ezarchive.com/verygoodheight/AlbumSpace/5X3IZLSPGR/07+l.a..mp3" target="_blank"Murs - L.A./abr /a href="http://www.ezarchive.com/verygoodheight/AlbumSpace/5X3IZLSPGR/05+Cruiser.mp3" target="_blank"Red House Painters - Cruiser/a

pstronga href="http://www.littlehits.com/songoftheday/Felt_Primitive%20Painters%20pressing%20d efect.mp3"Felt #8212; Primitive Painters (pressing defect mix)/a/strong/p p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt"(from a damaged copy of the LP emGold Mine Trash/em, PVC Records 1987)/p p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt"Normally, here at Little Hits, we wouldn#8217;t cover a song as well-known (and in-print) as this one, but this is a weird little oddity that I was reminded of by a recent thread on another blog, a href="http://www.rocktownhall.com"Rock Town Hall/a, about records we prefer to hear on vinyl. This is ripped from my old vinyl copy of Felt#8217;s US introduction compilation emGold Mine Trash/em, which I bought from University Records in Lubbock not long after it came out. #8220;Primitive Painters#8221; immediately became my favorite song on the album, largely because although it#8217;s become sort of the canonical Felt song, it#8217;s really just Lawrence in front of the Cocteau Twins, who at the time were one of my favorite bands./p p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt"Funny thing, though: it wasn#8217;t until something over a decade later, when I bought Cherry Red#8217;s label history emAmbition/em, that I heard #8220;Primitive Painters#8221; somewhere other than this LP, and that was when I discovered that one of my favorite parts of the whole song wasn#8217;t actually an element of the song itself, but an artifact of a bad pressing of the album. If I look very carefully at the LP (placing it on top of another disc helps), I can see that the spindle hole is ever so slightly #8212; we#8217;re talking between 1/8th and 1/16th of an inch #8212; off-center. Apparently, this is just enough of a defect to cause the album to spin slightly unevenly, and although the physics of it are beyond my grasp (English major), the result is that #8220;Primitive Painters#8221; on this particular copy of the LP has a disorienting, underwater quality to it that#8217;s missing from the regular song. It#8217;s a subtle difference (I can hear it mostly on the guitars and Liz Fraser#8217;s backing vocals), but it#8217;s one that#8217;s imprinted so strongly on my musical memory of this song that the normal song sounds subtly but importantly wrong. And now that I#8217;m doing an A-B comparison, I see that the emGold Mine Trash/em version is about 30 seconds shorter as well, which I#8217;d never noticed before./p p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt" p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt"#8211;Stewart Mason/p p style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt" class="MsoNormal"img src="http://www.littlehits.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/felt.jpg" //p a href="http://www.littlehits.com/songoftheday/Felt_Primitive%20Painters%20pressing%20d efect.mp3"Download audio file (Felt_Primitive%20Painters%20pressing%20defect.mp3)/abr /
